Mike Plume was born in Moncton, New Brunswick in 1968. In 1985 he bought his first guitar and moved to Bonnyville, Alberta, where he played more and more guitar.
In 1987 Mike joined his first rock and roll band and up until 1993 he toured all over western Canada with various rock and roll bands. All the time Mike was learning a truck load of songs as well as writing his own material.
Mike's first album 'Songs from a Northern Town' was released in 1993, and from then til now it's been at least 20 guitars, a ton of miles, a boat load of shows, a handful of records and more fun, laughs and friends than anyone should be allowed...so there.
Hello......It's me......a voice from your past.
Well well well.....long time no talk.
How are things?
You look great. Have you lost weight? That's funny, because I think I have found it.
Anyway, I just thought that I would check in to see how you're doing.
I know I have not held down my end of the touring musician/fan deal lately......but, here I am
trying to make up for lost time.
As you can probably tell, I have really, I mean really, slowed down on the touring front. I hope that you don't hold it against me, but I just had to take a break.
That was almost three years ago now and I still have not felt the urge to hit the road like a fool in a hurry.
It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that, about 8 months ago, Jenny and I had a little baby girl who goes by the name Ruby Tallulah.........Naaaaaaahhhhhh.
As you proably know by now, I have a new(ish) album that came out last year sometime and I have been getting some of the more favorable reviews of my "career".
Anyway, that doesn't really matter too much.
It was just a fun record to make.
Ross Watson, Lorrie Matheson, Joel Stewart (the Future Hall of Famers) and Young Dave Alcock (Sundae Sound in Calgary Alberta).
A great bunch of guys to make a record with.
An even better bunch to drink a pint or two with and regale each other with tales of the war.
I have still managed to play the odd show every now and again. And,
when I have found my way to a stage, it has been with just a guitar and harmonica.
The old army buddies of mine who I slugged it out with in the trenches for the better part of 8 years and roughly 1800 shows have since moved on and now call themselves the Populars.
They are working on a record right now as we speak and hopefully they will have copies for sale when we play together at the Black Sheep in Wakefield Que. on May 1st..
If not, they do have a 5 song E.P. called "five".
Which, by the way, I know for a fact is for sale....So there.
It will be our first show together at the "Sheep" in over 2 and 1/2 years and our second show since that Friday night in October of '02.
We played a show last summer in the old hometown of Bonnyville Alberta and even the one and only Derek "God Damned" Mazurek joined us on stage for the first time in 4 and 1/2 years.
Man, that was fun.
I have started making a racket in a basement here in downtown Toronto with Darcy Yates on the bass guitar and Derek Downham on the drums.
I feel like I am 16 again.
Anyway, all that being said, it is good to touch base with you again.
I hope that this letter finds you well.
Take care and I will see you when I see you.
Adios,
Mike
